According to Pennsylvania School Health laws, if your child is entering kindergarten or grade 6 next year, he or she will need to have a physical exam completed. The form has been mailed to the homes of all current fifth grade students. If you did not receive a form, please call the nurses’ office. The physical exam time is also a perfect time for a discussion with your child’s doctor about any additional immunizations that are recommended for your child. Examples of these are a second chickenpox vaccine for almost all students except those who had chickenpox disease, and the meningitis vaccine and Tdap booster for students entering seventh grade. Exams should be returned by the first day of school next year.
Dental exam forms for students entering grades 1 and 5 next year will be arriving home soon in your child’s report card envelope or communication folder.
Student’s who do not have health or dental insurance coverage will be offered a school exam next spring.
If your child is not covered by any health insurance, please call 1-800-986-KIDS or visit chipcoverspakids.com for information about Pennsylvania’s Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Please call me if you have any questions.
