Children in 1st, 2nd, and 7th grades – especially children who do not have a dentist and are uninsured – can receive a free oral exam and sealants.

Getting sealants is simple and painless. First, a dentist examines the permanent molars for decay. Then if there are no cavities, a hygienist paints a thin coating on the chewing surface. The liquid quickly hardens to form a shield over the teeth. Sealants can last up to ten years, but need to be examined at regular dental check-ups.

Sealants should be applied as soon as the molars come in, and before decay attacks the teeth. Permanent molars come in between 5-7 years of age. These are commonly referred to as “6-year” molars. Children get a second set of permanent molars between 11-14 years of age. These are commonly referred to as “12-year” molars.

The exam and sealants are free

Only molars without decay can be sealed

A tooth with decay needs to be filled by a dentist

If you do not have a dentist, we can make an appointment for you

This exam does not replace a regular dental check-up

Parents must call to schedule an appointment
